My Project

Yoga is a mindfulness tool that can be utilized by both teachers and students. When students are able to recognize when they need to take the time to regulate their emotions and bodies, they are able to actively engage in their learning and social relationships.

Teachers who receive the training necessary to implement these techniques, and understanding the different times to use them, see results in their students' academic growth and in the relationships they have with their students.

I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT200) who has received additional training in Trauma-Informed Chair Yoga for Teachers and Students. I will be starting an after-school club for students, teaching them mindfulness through meditation and yoga poses they can do in their chairs in the classroom. I will also be providing professional development for teachers in order for them to use these techniques in the classrooms. Along with the specific asanas and breathing techniques, I will be demonstrating at different times of the day to show a variety of times these strategies can be used: at the start of the day, before or after a transition, and when someone is upset or stressed.
