My Students

Our kindergarten playground has a fun tricycle track with twists, turns and shapes that they can follow. Unfortunately, we have only 3 tricycles that are in good working condition. It is impossible for all the kindergartners to share only 3 tricycles during recess.

We have over 120 pre-kindergartners and kindergartners using the kindergarten yard everyday.

About 80 percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Our students have a love of learning but like all 4,5 and 6 year old children, they love to play. Unfortunately, most of the students don't have opportunities to ride bikes safely around the neighborhood. So being able to ride around our track at school would be a great opportunity for our students to ride a bike and get some exercise. It is amazing--every year I have a few students who can't pedal a tricycle, but they learn quickly so we need to give them time to practice!

My Project

We have about 50 kindergartners playing on the playground at one time. All the children love the tricycles, but there are not enough tricycles or time to give everyone a chance to ride around the track. Having two more tricycles will allow more children to be able to ride and shorten the wait time between their turns. Exercise is very important, and by having more tricycles the children will spend more time exercising than waiting.

Since child obesity is on the rise, we must do our part at school and provide the children the opportunity to get the exercise they need.

Due to budget cuts, our school has no money to provide tricycles for our students, so I hope you will support this project. With your help . . . we can help our future leaders stay healthy and strong.
