Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with high school students who are reading at an elementary school level. The books we have in the building are for high school readers and are written at a level far beyond their skill.

Picking up a book well beyond their reading level not only deters them from reading but has a devastating impact on their self-confidence and self-image, as well.

Too often, I have seen students shut down with their heads on their desks, or go to the "bathroom" whenever it is time to read.

These books are leveled for my students, while still looking age-appropriate. No embarrassing baby books in high school, and no books that will drive them out of the room with shame or frustration. Please help my students feel good about reading and good about themselves!
