Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way." Psycholinguist Frank Smith understood the value of multilingualism, a lesson I work hard to instill in my English learners every day.

My English learners proudly represent over ten different countries around the world, and we welcome their diverse experiences, languages, and identities into the four walls of our classroom every day.

Our goal is to empower our students to become the next multilingual generation, full of knowledge, compassion, and creativity. Help us invest in our incredible students!

My Project

My students are 6th-8th grade English learners who are currently at the beginning level of English proficiency. Teaching English as a Second Language at the secondary level isn't just about helping students learn conversational English. We hold our students to the highest standard and provide them with equitable access to grade-level content.

There is nothing more special than watching a child learn to read.

This year, all English classes are reading high-interest novels as part of a new curriculum. To build our student's reading comprehension and fluency levels, the ESL team would like to provide novels to our students that are accessible for their current English proficiency level. This will help them to ease into reading a grade-level novel in the second semester of school.

While these books are available at a low cost, we as teachers already spend so much money out of our own pockets that our families cannot support the cost of these class sets of books. We would greatly appreciate your support, and our students will directly benefit from you providing access to reading!
