Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This is one of my favorite quotes by Maya Angelou.

The first time I heard it, I can remember thinking for hours about different people that I have known throughout my life and how they made me feel.

It had such a powerful affect on me and it molded the person I am today.

As the school year comes to an end, I want my 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to feel empowered. I want them to know that I believe in them and they can succeed. I am always telling them that they can do anything they put their minds to!

This class has found a very special place in my heart. I want them to always remember that their teacher cared about and believed in them. A life survival bag will do just that! This will be something special that I will give to my students on the last day of school in June during our year-end celebration. It will consist of 16 items and a letter explaining each thing that I want them to remember. For example, I will include a sponge to "soak up all the knowledge you can." And, a Tootsie Pop to "remind you that you will have to lick some difficult situations, but if you persevere, you will reap the sweetest results." I am also requesting supplies such as table cloths, paper plates, chips, and licorice for our celebration.

I know my students will treasure this gift and how it makes them feel long after they leave my class. I hope that it will inspire each of them to work hard and make all their dreams come true.
