Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from Brooklyn, but many students or families have also immigrated from countries in the Caribbean, Yemen and Mali. Our students speak a range of languages such as Spanish, Haitian Creole, Arabic, and Bambara. Our students exude the overall DRIVE values of our school inside and outside the classroom - Determination, Respect, Integrity, Voice, and Engagement. They display a strong love and passion for learning, and show pride in doing the heavy lifting of their learning.

In addition to their overall cultural diverse backgrounds, being that we are teaching in a Inter Collaborative Teaching (ICT) classroom, some of our students have disabilities ranging from ADHD to autism.

We want the best for them just as they want the best for themselves. Having the classroom supplies this year will positively impact their growth academically, socially, and emotionally.

My Project

Hello everyone! I am so excited to be entering my 2nd year teaching at New Bridges Elementary School (P.S.532). New Bridges is a Title 1 school located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. I will be the Special Education teacher in a Inter collaborative Teaching Classroom. I want to ensure all of my scholars have the necessary supplies to have a great start to our school year together along with my co-teacher. Students will be engaging in parallel as well as station taught lessons throughout the day. They will also partake in small group sessions for Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Overall, I want my classroom to be a place where students feel confident, welcomed, and have the materials needed to access the academic content being taught.

I am requesting bulk materials such as pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, erasers, dry erase markers, construction paper, glue sticks, and scissors that are required for daily lessons and activities.

In order to keep the classroom organized, clean, and easily accessible for students, I am also requesting pocket charts, bins, mailbox organizers, cleaning wipes, and hand sanitizer. Lastly, we want to make sure to classroom has resources available to students such as the alphabet line, number line, 100s chart, calendar, and name tags to use to throughout the day.
