Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A shy 10th grader, proudly shows me a drawing of her as an Elvin Bard. A 7th grader nervously asks me if it is ok to play a male Goliath Barbarian. She jumps with excitement when I said she can be anything she wants to be. An 8th grader confidently proclaims that he will run the next adventure and wants me as a player.

These are just some of the many reasons I run the after-school D&D club at our school in Far Rockaway, NY.

The books you sponsor will provide these students with many more great memories and will foster some of them into future Dungeon Masters. During Year 1, I started this club to give students other venues to express themselves other than video games and sports. Eight middle and high school students explored the world of Faerun and searched for the Lost Mines of Phandelver. This year, the goal is to turn some of these founding members into creative Dungeon Masters and run their own adventures.

Dungeon & Dragon (D&D) is a cooperative storytelling game where players immerse themselves in an open mythical world as heroes or villains. The Dungeon Master serves as a narrator, referee, and judge to keep the story flowing but all decisions are made by the players. The game teaches students about communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. There are many articles and studies about the benefit of D&D.

Mr. Fung Ching Urban Action Academy Grades 9-12

Celebrate Black teachers and kids! This project supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of students are Black.

Equity Focus

At this school, more than 50% of students are Black, Latino, and/or Native American, and more than 50% come from low-income households. Learn how your donation to this school supports a more equitable education.
