Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My high school is composed of an incredibly rich and diverse population of over 3,000 students located in a suburban area 20 minutes outside of NYC. Diversity is our school’s greatest strength.

Mock trial is an academic competition team where students prepare a criminal or civil case based on fictitious facts provided by various state and educational organizations.

The Mock Trial Varsity Academic Team consists of twenty members who dedicate their free time after school and on weekends for nine months of the year to further their knowledge of the American justice system. The pillars of our club are Honesty, Integrity, and Ethics. Our members embody those characteristics and work veraciously to spread those sentiments throughout their community.

Members of our team are as diverse as the school population. They have various socioeconomic backgrounds; many of their parents speak a language other than English as their primary language. The majority are on free or reduced rate lunch, with one or both parents working full-time. Funding for the team is raised through member’s fund-raising activities throughout the school year. Most teammates are also members of the Key Club and volunteer throughout the year.

My Project

This trip will expose my students to one of the United States' finest institutions of higher learning. The students have decided to forego most of their summer activities to prepare for the Yale Bulldog Invitational. They will spend a total of about of 180 hours over the summer break to prepare for the tournament.

The Yale Bulldogs, the number one collegiate Mock Trial team in the country, has invited the Clifton High School Mock Trial Team to compete in the annual Bulldog Invitational based on their accomplishments this past season.

This experience will enrich the lives of my team members.
