Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

It is amazing how loud 18 first graders can be! They become chatterboxes extremely quickly! My class is in a poor area of a large city in Texas. I want to teach my students how to work quietly and independently so they can do their best work, and I want to impart on them the importance of organization.

My students must learn to work independently at a low noise level without me having to interrupt the lesson to remind them to keep quiet. The Yacker Tracker will help my students remember to think about how much and how loud they are talking and will foster a positive learning environment. As for the pocket charts, we are currently working on recognizing weather patterns and learning to count by 5's and 10's. The pocket charts will be a wonderful visual tool for the students to use to measure and count.

I need a Yacker Tracker for my classroom to assist in my classroom management, so that the students can recognize on their own when their noise becomes too loud. The Yacker Tracker is adjustable for the sound level that is appropriate for the particular assignment. When the class becomes too loud, the Yacker Tracker changes colors (first yellow, then red, like a stoplight). This will teach the class when they can talk at a louder level and when they need to speak more softly. Another teacher at my school bought one for her class, and it has worked wonders to keep the noise level down and keep the students learning! It is also important for my students to become organized while mastering their counting and pattern skills. The storage trays, weather pocket chart, and place value pocket chart will reinforce the lessons that I am currently teaching. The students will be able to learn these skills during class time and during the extra tutoring I provide after school.

You will make it possible for my students to gain independence and realize they are capable of mastering organization, noise level, and necessary learning skills. When everyone maintains a respectful noise level and stays organized, all of the students can thrive!
