Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

It is no secret that people like to be rewarded for their good choices and hard work. In the classroom it is even more powerful in encouraging students to work hard and be mindful of the choices they are making throughout the day. That is why I created this project to stock our classroom with galaxy putty slime, animal eraser desk pets, a fidget toys pack with fidget toys the students enjoy, LED light up items, and a treasure box to hold the items and display as a visual reminder for them. My students are kind and motivated 3rd graders that respond well to positive encouragement and reinforcement.

As they continue to learn and navigate proper conduct, the rewards positively reinforce the good while correcting the areas needing improvement.

Not only will the desk pets, fidget toys, and slime be used to reward good conduct, those items in addition to the light up toys will be great incentives for the students to work hard in their learning as they can receive rewards for their performance and participation. My students are also often coming from situations where they may not be used to receiving many rewards or gifts, even for birthdays, so the items in this project will help serve them in that capacity as well. When appropriate, on or around a student’s birthday we sing as a class and I give them personal birthday cards, and I like to be able to give them a gift with it to make their day even more special. The smiles that light up their faces when they get these gifts is always uplifting! This project is developed to help fuel one way to show the students they matter and so does their conduct and their work.
