Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am currently working with children with Autism. I would like my students to participate in a writing program. This program consists of tracing, independent writing skills, and developing alphabet awareness. The writing skills program helps the students become better writers, promotes independence in fine motor tasks such as opening and closing buttons, containers, etc, and also it helps them strengthen the small muscles of the hand in order to hold a pencil in a correct way. Developing good writing skills is an essential tool and part of our daily living. Fine motor skills have been proven to be difficult for children with Autism to develop. My students are in the need of theraputty (different strength), pop up toys, rapper snappers and small tweezers in order to participate in the writing program and develop better fine motor skills. Without these materials we cannot teach the writing program, and other hands-on activities. Regular play dough tends to dry and can not be manipulated and reuse as the theraputty. The additional materials can also be use for exercises that help diminish tension and stress caused by the everyday surrounding within the school. The acquisition of these materials will benefit the students to live a healthier life and promote continuous learning for many years.
