A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I love coming to work every day because I get to share my love of mathematics with my students. In return, they are teaching me about their personal culture. Most of my students come from low-income homes where they experience many struggles daily. But do they show this? No, they show me that the world will not bring them down and that they are excited to learn something new every day when they walk into my math classroom.
One of the basic and most essential tools my math students need is a pencil to be able to continue their academic learning.
One thing I absolutely hate is seeing the shame on a student's face when they have to ask for a pencil. I do not like my students feeling discouraged in their learning just because they do not have a one. With that being said, I personally give pencils and lead away freely. I want my students willing and wanting to try when they get to my math classroom. Creating a safe environment where they want to learn, create, and just plain out try is my top priority.
This project will allow me to continue handing out pencils to my students in need. I do strongly believe in setting my students up for success by giving them their first pencil for free and to get a new pencil they have to trade me for a short and stubby one. This forces my students to take responsibility over their supplies and not loose their writing/drawing tool. This actually does work and makes my students feel safe to learn because they know that they will always have something to write with. Your donation will allow me to continue building up my students belief
