My Students

Remember when you were in school and how cool it was to write on the board? It still is!, and my kids love to use their own dry erase board. Unfortunately the ones I have have all been well loved and are scarred and stained and now difficult to read.

I get the real pleasure of teaching special needs students, those kids who learn differently or are a little slower than others.

I work with small groups, (5-8) at a time. Individual white or dry erase boards, (with markers!) are the best way for me to work close with them, and they to write the answers to the questions. Our School is located in rural southeastern North Carolina, with no large towns or cities. We are totally dependent on agriculture for our economy. We are a K-8 school and I serve students in all grades, even my 8th graders ask to use the dry erase boards.

My Project

I teach in small groups, as our funding does not allow us to purchase the very expensive workbooks that go with programs, we use pencil and paper a lot. In the General Curriculum classes that's all they can do, sometimes my classes must do that as well, but a lot of the time we can use individual boards to write out our answers, and do the math problems before we commit them to paper. I use the boards in just about every class and every day. Markers I can purchase at the store, and sometimes the school will have some, but the boards have to be ordered. Even with the individual boards, I still use the chalk board, (yes I am rather old school) and believe it or not the school doesn't order them! So with this request I am asking for some chalk erasers. You cannot use the dry eraser on the chalk board and vice a versa, it ruins the erasers and they just don't work well after that. I learned that lesson the hard way!

New boards will allow my kids who learn in a different way a chance to be able to read and write with ease.

Large markers allow little hands to learn to print, and older students can put their ideas down, and erase with ease. It's a little thing but it does go a long way to allowing these kids who struggle to master the concepts, express themselves and learn. Thank you for taking the time to visit this site, and read my request. I do hope you will find some class to help out, if not mine.
