Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are between 5 and 8 years old and are all diagnosed with Autism. We are a District 75 school located in the South Bronx. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and many come from single-parent homes. All of my students receive Speech and Language Therapy and many also benefit from Occupational and/or Physical Therapy.

My students love to learn and play!

They are in a small class of only 8 students and we are lucky enough to have two amazing paraprofessional in our class everyday. They are quickly learning to read and write more and more each day and are very inquisitive. They love to explore everything around them! They also love to ask and answer each other's questions about books and toys.

My Project

My students have been working hard on becoming better writers this year. They have learned how to choose a topic to write about and write 3-4 pages about the topic. In order to keep them motivated to keep writing, they need journals so they can continue to write down their new ideas. They also need colored pencils so they can begin to go back and edit their writing as they learn new skills. Some students are still learning to use proper pencil grip as well and benefit from using assistive grips.

Items in this project are basic supplies that we regularly need throughout the school year.

We are always fighting off germs using Lysol wipes. The students are also constantly using dry erase markers while practicing new skills on whiteboards and using checklists to edit their work.
