Help Mrs. Kline

I work at a Title One school in Texas. Many of my students are of low socio-economic status. A majority of my students are labeled at-risk, and a handful bear a special education label.

How important is writing? A large majority of today's jobs require good writing skills. It is becoming more and more important that students learn how to be good writers at an early age. My sixth grade students love writing, and it is one of the main focuses of our curriculum. Writing is so universal. It can develop into almost anything, take you almost anywhere, and impact almost anyone. I believe my students can become great writers. And, you can help.

I am requesting a handful of books that will enable me to teach writing skills in a number of ways. Every student is different. Some students learn best while working on the computer. For them, I am requesting a book that will help me to come up with writing activities that incorporate technology. Some students learn best while being quiet and reflecting on their thoughts. For those learners, I am requesting a book of journal prompts. Some students learn best through hands-on, kinesthetic activities. For students like them, I am requesting a wonderful book that has a variety of writing resources, such as graphic organizers, revise and edits, and examples of the four basic types of writing as written by other students. To top it all off, I am requesting a bulletin board set of the 6+1 traits of writing. This board will help all types of learners, from visual to kinesthetic.

As always, my students and I thank you humbly for your time and consideration. It is because of people such as you that teachers such as me are able to make a difference in the lives of others. We do appreciate you!
