My students love to be busy, engaged, and hands on. This project will be a means to get those materials into their hands. Through these materials my students will be able to analyze literary texts and will be able to write well.
Most of my students come from a low income, inner city environment.
They are eager to learn and interested in engaging lessons, but many don't have the means to purchase the most basic classroom supplies or books. Our school also has a low PTA population so funding for copies or other basic materials is difficult to obtain. These kids are grateful for everything we provide for them and anxious to achieve at the highest level possible.
I've requested a set of books from Pultizer Prize winning author Rick Bragg which my creative writing students will use in analysis and model study. The articles in this text will also connect them with real world events and enable us to branch out into invigorating and challenging discussions. I've requested printer ink because we are very limited in the number of copies we can make at our school and with ink I will be able to print classroom sets of materials as well as passages of literary texts that students can annotate and mark. The sentence strips will facilitate our study of grammar and sentence composition while giving students the chance to work together and collaboratively.
My classroom will be improved through these donations.
Students will have materials they otherwise would not have. I will be able to reach a greater number of students and in ways that are invigorating and stimulating. My students are eager to learn and I'm anxious to provide them with the means to do that.
