Help Mrs. Jones

Hello! I am a first-year teacher to a wonderful and active group of ten 4th graders. These students live in a high-need community where most of the families are completely poverty stricken.

My students lack a basic foundation in sentence structure and grammar. As we have begun to write more, it has became apparent that the children cannot enjoy the stories that they are writing because they have to spend so much time focusing on grammar and sentence structure. Their lack of an adequate foundation makes writing frustrating to them instead of fun and exciting.

The sentence and grammar stations would allow the students to learn easily and in a fun way. By using the sentence station, they would be learning to form correct sentences, avoid sentence-fragments, stay away from run-ons, and other important skills. The grammar station would let them learn about verbs, nouns, adjectives, and adverbs in a fun and exciting way. These kids could then learn to enjoy writing.

By providing these materials you will make it possible for my students to develop a firm base knowledge of grammar and sentecne structure. Let's work together and make writing a blast for these terrific fourth graders.
