This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a second grade ESL teacher in Brooklyn, I work with a diverse, fun, and inspiring group of learners.

Every day that my students join me for class, they are prepared not only to practice math, learn how to read, and work on their writing, but also to improve their English language.

Most of my students are English language learners and many of them are new to the US. In my classroom, you may hear students speaking Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Arabic. I work in a Title I school in which ninety percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, meaning their family income is below the poverty line. In order to support their learning in both academics and English, my students require hands-on and visual materials.

My Project

This upcoming school year, NYC will be starting off the year with a blended model of in school and remote learning. My students will need materials to support them both in school and at home. We would like to send materials such as notebooks, Post-it notes, and stylus pens home with them.

My project aims to ease the transition between in-school and remote learning and provide students the supports they need to succeed at home.

My hope is to supply students with a combination of digital accessories that will increase their participation in Distance Learning and hands-on materials that will allow students to continue learning in an engaging way. We also will be teaching students writing in school, so face shields will be needed for teachers and students to feel more safe.
