My Students

"Are you ready, Tigers?" is how I greet my reading and writing students every day. They always answer with a resounding "Yes!" as they enter my class.

My school has a high number of students who are ESOL, English Language Learners, and there are a few who are SPED, and gifted.

Even though we have to cater to and adapt to such a wide range of learning needs, we know that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology (and teachers who care).

As their reading teacher and one of the reading coaches, one of my main objectives is to facilitate the students I serve using the most up-to-date technology while improving and enhancing their reading experiences.

My Project

This monochrome printer I am requesting will provide my students the opportunity to create brochures and handouts for their parents and members of their Hispanic and Haitian-American community that can show step-by-step directions, visual supports, rubrics, and other valuable information that will help to keep them healthy and safe during these pandemic times. Projecting directions on the big screen during community meetings and open house nights at our school are no longer options and most parents and adult members of our community do not all have internet access or apps such as zoom or google meet.

When students can type up and print out valuable information in their home language and distribute these handouts, it will teach them community service skills while improving their writing skills which is very helpful and necessary.

Teaching students how to create informational brochures and handouts organizes them, minimizes interruptions, keeps them on task, and gives them the information they need to be successful and to maximize their creativity while helping their community in the process.
