This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Initiate a dedicated writing area in the VPK classroom to provide pre-writing, creativity, and language skills for 4- and 5-year-old children. It will be a stimulating and inclusive space specifically for kids to learn about letters, words, and drawing as communication tools.

Writing is important during pre-school as children use writing to articulate, try new words, and build their fine motor skills.

Having a writing space in the VPK classroom will offer a fun, yet secure environment where children can practice writing both guided and unguided activities. This is not only an attempt to provide them with a writing corner but also to lay a solid foundation of literacy that will stay with them throughout their academic career.

Children use writing to communicate ideas and emotions, to tell stories and make their voice heard. In the VPK classroom, we have our students at a time where everything they learn is vital to their academic future. But for most of our kids, it is the place where we get our materials and experiences to help them find their way into the world of letters and words. If we build a space for writing in our classroom, they’ll not only experience creative and social possibilities but also gain motor, cognitive and social skills. Together we can establish an educational space where every child’s curiosity and interest can be fostered. Our resources and furnishings are necessary to turn this corner into a place of discovery. If you support us, we can give them a writing space to sharpen their skills, explore their imagination and lay the groundwork for a good education. Thank you for consider this project, and for believing in early education’s transformative effects. All we can do is let our children begin to write their own story.
