My project needs a variety (total of 45) of reading materials such as novels, audio books, and magazines as well as a listening center for the various and multilevel learner. I will also utilize various teacher resources for teaching literacy and writing.

I will be teaching at a suburban high school with a wide range of learning capabilities in the same environment. I teach ninth graders literature. The classes generally consist of multi-ethnic groups including Hispanic, African and Caucasian with low level, high interest readers. Many of these students have not read a book since grade school and have no support or encouragement at home to do so. My goal is to engage the various learning styles and needs that each student brings into the class by setting up a learning environment rich in reading materials and accessible for every type of learner. The variety of reading materials combined with the listening centers and the audio books will serve as a spring board into the literacy world where I can enhance their critical thinking skills through writing projects. By allowing access to a variety of reading material and access to various avenues to reading, I hope to increase their reading comprehension skills as well as enhance their critical thinking skills. Through individualized writing projects based on the students' interests, I hope to foster a love for reading. The project will include a variety of reading materials and a listening center as well as teacher resource books.
