My Students

Creativity, imagination, problem solving and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for EVERY student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals.

Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,200 children enrolled.

We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning. I teach 2nd grade students all day and after-school enrichment programs to provide a variety of learning opportunities outside of the classroom for K-2 students.

My Project

The magnetic dry erase board chart stand with storage boxes is needed to help us organize and display our valuable teaching tools. During large and small group reading and writing instruction, I will be able to display books and teacher-made anchor charts to use as interactive teaching tools. I can model reading and writing strategies on the dry erase board and use magnetic letters and pictures to help students with spelling. The storage boxes on the bottom are needed to hold the small reading group books and activities. Students will also be able to use both sides of the stand during our Island Rotation Stations. During this time, they work on various reading, writing, math, science or social studies projects. This stand would help our teaching materials and books organized and all in one location.

Donations for this much-needed furniture piece would help us get organized.

It will improve classroom instruction by serving as an Island Station, an organized instructional center and a storage house for our small group books and activities. It is important for me to model effective organizational skills and have a place for students to work independently, with a learning buddy or as a whole group for instruction time.
