This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergartners are energetic kids with a love of learning. They are eager to learn and eager to play. In our district, over 90% of our students come from low-socioeconomic families. A large percentage of them meet the definition of homeless. Their parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. They are working necessary jobs for us and for their families.

My kindergartners worry about starting school (and staying safe), and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, create, read, write, learn and grow.

I want my students to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read and learn to use technology. I want them to have the materials they need to learn language arts, math, science and social studies.

My Project

My incoming kindergartners have not yet received any school supplies for learning and I want to prepare them for school as best I can. During this pandemic, they are sheltering in place with only the items that their parents have purchased for them, which may not be much. I want to make sure that they have the needed materials to learn from home.

These materials will help my students continue to learn from home during school with our new distance teaching and learning model.

These journals will allow me to have consistency at home and at school because they provide a good basic skill set needed to learn sight words and writing skills. The writing implements will give them something with which to write. The other classroom tools are used to cut and paste word pictures and letters. I want to make sure they have these items at home so that they can do the assignments given for their distance learning days.
