This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Going into this school year, I want to help show my students the benefits of true engagement and working through a geometry problem "out loud." I want to help my students annotate, draw, write, mark up, and express themselves when they are interacting with a problem. It is so important for students to learn that processing and thinking "out loud" on paper, whiteboards, posters, etc. is beneficial and part of the mathematical process.

This project provides my students with classroom markers, erasers, dry-erase markers, pens, pencils, and a stylus for the digital classroom screen so students have the necessary marking utensils to help them engage in their mathematical thinking on a variety of surfaces.

Additionally, this project includes pencil cases and storage containers for the previously listed supplies.

The goal of this project is to support students in their journey to mathematically think and organize new topics on the boards in the room, on their papers, collaboratively with their peers, and in any other medium they can imagine. I am hopeful that providing so many options for how to express their work will ultimately help to create a successful year and a sense of inclusion for all of my students, regardless of their past experiences with mathematics.
