My Students

My students inspire me every time they show up to class, ready to tackle the lesson ahead, whether that be understanding vocabulary, analyzing a text, or even tackling a grammar problem.

My kids work for me the minute class begins, until the end of the period.

Sometimes when that perfect day comes, we even go into the passing period. That is when I know they are learning. It is because of those moments that I want to provide them with materials that will push them to succeed.

My Project

One of the most daunting standards to teach my students is essay writing. They struggle with all types of writing every year: informational, argumentative, and even narrative. After many years of teaching and trying out different materials to make writing a more enjoyable lesson, there is only one supplement where I have seen tangible results - EssayPop.

EssayPop is a site that breaks down essay writing to a series of frames.

Students can concentrate on one frame at a time, get help in the form of sentence starters, and even see what makes up the bulk of their individual paragraphs. The best part? With this student license, each student can use the program for writing across the curriculum - their science experiments, their history research papers, and even their health projects.

I find that this is a more powerful tool than Google Docs or Microsoft Word. This program actually guides them while they are writing. Gone are the days when a student can say, "I'm stuck!"
