My Students

Do you remember what it was like when you wrote your very first word, sentence, paragraph, and/or story? My students face daily struggles with writing and need hands-on manipulatives to increase their burning desires to write amazing masterpieces.

My students are wonderful students in a special education classroom for third, fourth, and fifth grade.

Whether they have a learning disability, communication disorder, intellectual disability, and/or autism, we celebrate their unique individual learning styles and unlimited potentials for learning. My students are in an environment that provides a small setting focused on functional academic and life skills. They are an amazing group supported by a dedicated team of teachers, parents, specialists, and assistants.

My Project

I am requesting a variety of hands-on writing materials for my students. The sentence building materials will provide my students with a hands-on way to learn about the structure and grammatical components of a sentence. They will be able to manipulate the materials which eliminates the frustration of writing/erasing with a pencil. The writing activity pockets will take their writing to the next level. As their writing increases, the difficulty of the prompts will increase, allowing students to increase their writing while working with fun topics that keep them engaged. The sequence and write materials will allow students to piece together a story through sequence cards (picture cues. Then they will transition to writing the story using the guided words that go along with each step in the sequence. The Construction Zone game will allow students to practice what they have learned at the end of the week on Fun Friday.

These materials will give my students that added boost they need in order to become confident with their writing.

They will over come the daily challenges they face and ultimately become successful and confident writers. This accomplishment with allow them to continue to thrive and feed their burning desire to keep learning.
