My Students

All of the students come from low-income families and receive free school breakfast and lunch. During this pandemic, their parents are unable to provide any resources or additional items because many are out of work and are barely making ends meet. My students are smart, creative, clever, and very enthusiastic about learning. The majority of my students read and write below grade level. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help them continue to increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform. As of March 23rd, my students have been learning at home. School is closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year due to the COVID-19 virus. This presents a challenge for my students and their families as most of my students do not have access to basic supplies in their homes and whatever they had was left behind in school.

Since the parents can't provide school items during these uncertain times, I would love to receive basic school supplies so they are able to successfully begin their new school year.

My Project

Students will use the notebooks and pencils for reading, writing, and math during the 2020-2021 school year, which will likely be a blended learning setting, partially in school and partially at home.

Students will use the notebooks in school and take them home to continue communicating their thinking and learning.

Each notebook will be used for a core subject.

In reading, students will use notebooks to respond to literature and jot ideas about their reading/group activities. For example during a character study unit they can discuss character traits and support the trait with text details. In writing, students will be using pencils and notebooks to organize their thoughts and draft their ideas, before moving a published piece. During math, whether at home or in the classroom, students will work out their problem of the day in their notebooks, as well as show work for the problems being solved in class. Showing several strategies helps students monitor their thinking and lead to a successful solution. Thank you for considering my students and my class.
