My Students

As a teacher in a Title I school in the NYC Department of Education, my students are faced with many challenges both in and outside of school. All students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch and many live in temporary housing.

The majority of our students struggle academically with little support outside of school.

School quickly becomes their second home.

Although I may not be able to control what goes on outside of school, I try my best to give them the greatest experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

My students need a place where they can do to practice their writing. As a Pre-K begins their schooling journey, learning to write is an essential element. Students begin to develop a love of writing and expression at a young age and these materials will be a huge asset to my classroom.

My students love to draw and write, but need a separate space to do it in.

With the space and furniture given to us, this writing center and materials will give my students the space they need to begin to develop their writing skills. Students will be learning to write their names, the alphabet and simple words. The foundation for their success throughout their lives.
