My Project

A lot of my scholars are struggling before they even enter my classroom. I create a positive and loving environment for the scholars that come into my classroom and are apart of our family. It is very important to me that each scholar feels love and supported as part of our classroom family. Some of these scholars have hard home lives and have to deal with adult problems as kids because they are right in the middle of them not by choice. This takes a toll on their mental health.

I plan on using these journals to first give them a time and a place set aside just to write their feelings and emotions that they are going through.

Second, I want to use them as a teacher student writing dialog project. The scholars will be able to check in with me and discuss emotions and feelings without worrying about other classmates knowing anything if they wish to. They will have time as a class to write what’s on their mind with 2nd grade writing standards. For example, they will use complete sentences and correct punctuation. Then they will have the opportunity to turn it into me. I would be able to reply back to them and create a positive connection which would result in a positive source for mental health. Mental Health is a growing issue for a lot of our scholars at Lincoln. I believe it’s time to make it a priority and start at a young age. I believe 2nd grade is a perfect time to start. This project will support writing and journaling their thoughts, feelings, and keep a positive dialog with me.
