My Students

I teach at a unique urban school. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. I teach students in kindergarten through fifth grade, and many of them have individual needs that do not allow them to attend a traditional school on a daily basis.

Many of my students have emotional and social issues, frequent medical treatments, safety concerns, difficulty in a traditional school setting and/or are homeless.

My students each face their own challenges every day outside of school. Some are grade levels behind and others are grade levels ahead.

My Project

My students need practice to become better writers. Good readers need to be strong writers as well. Writing well takes practice, reflection, and feedback.

My students need practice responding to writing prompts and practice writing good, well-structured paragraphs.

Writing journals will provide daily and weekly writing practice for my students, as well as help keep their writing samples together in one place so that they may view the improvement in their writing skills. Writing may be done in class or at home. Students will get feedback from classmates and the teacher to help guide them in bettering their writing skills and composition.
