I am a first grade teacher at a high poverty inner city school. I have a wonderful class of eager learners. The only problem is that we have very limited resources. The children have no resources available at their homes and depend on me to supply all the materials needed for school. I have 2 autistic students , 4 special ed inclusion students and a variety of mixed learners. They deserve a chance to learn!

Our budget has been severely slashed. We just lost 4 assistants and a special ed teacher. I am using a set of white board paddles to check individual responses and monitor for assessment. The markers that came with the boards are almost completely dry. We use these paddle boards every day to do our group work. They write answers to math facts, reading questions etc. They can answer science questions quickly so I can assess their progress. They love these boards and use them all the time. We also need the towelettes to clean the boards. We are currently using a piece of felt that I cut into little squares. This works for instant clean up but sometimes leaves black smears on the boards that have to bee cleaned off with cleaner. We also use permanent markers daily for blending and fluency practice as well as to chart new skills and the steps to learn them. We use them to create process charts and to display poems and other writing projects. Our permanent markers are also wearing out and we have to stop in the middle to rest them. We need markers that write and are bold enough to see later at our desks.

If we had new markers they could continue to show their eagerness to learn and be active participants. It is so hard to tell them that we can't use something because it no longer works. While they want to show their knowledge and have me wink at them (I wink if their answer is correct so no one else can copy), I want to still be able to assess their individual knowledge.

You can make a difference with only a minimum expense. We really need these markers and only hope someone is kind enough to fund our grant. Thank you.
