Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Kindergarten at a Title I public school where 100% of the students receive free lunch. Seven out of my 18 students are English language learners. Some of the students live under stressful circumstances. Their parents are immigrants so they are trying to adjust to a new culture and they also do not speak English. Some of these children have no parental figures, and others must care for their younger siblings. Seven of my students came into my classroom with no background knowledge. In spite of their circumstances, my students are eager to learn and love coming to school!

My Project

My students are taking their "first steps" in writing. I have a wide range of writing levels in my class. The materials of this project will help differentiate my instruction.

Your generous donations will help my students develop letter formation skills, practice writing sight words, and write their first sentences.

The materials will be used daily during my Guided Writing lesson and in centers. Children learn by doing and the majority are kinesthetic learners. The Alphabet Dough Mats and the Build the Letter Activity Center will help and motivate them to write. My students will also have fun using the Leveled Sight Word Cards and the Write & Wipe Sight Word practice cards. My goal is that by the end of the year, my students will be able to write a sensible sentence(s) with appropriate capitalization, punctuation, and spacing.
