Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently teach thirty energetic, eager-to-learn second graders at an inner-city school located in Illinois. My students come from a variety of cultures, across a wide range of income levels located within the school's neighborhood and from other neighborhoods across the city.

Like most second graders, my students are extremely curious and love to figure out the world around them through open-ended exploration of materials, topics, ideas, and their surroundings.

I am constantly amazed by the thoughts they have, the way they express themselves, how they work to understand and communicate their experiences with one another.

My Project

My second graders are ROCKING remote learning, but responding to assignments can be tough for them when using their finger as a digital writing device. Currently, my students are expected to respond to assignments by handwriting, using symbols, marking up documents, loading photos, and recording audio. Having a digital pencil would make responding in writing much easier for them!

Using your finger as a writing device can be challenging for adults and students alike.

To alleviate this challenge, I would like to supply each of my students with an Apple Pencil to use along with their iPad. Then, when its time to write, students can use this tool to respond more easily, with better clarity. On my end, it will be easier to understand their writing, and ultimately their awesome ideas. This will also help my students practice their penmanship and fine motor skills!
