My Students

I teach a set of wonderful 3rd-grade students who live in a low-income community, a community that is mixed with violence and poverty. Each student has a wide range of academic, social and emotional needs.

They walk in every morning, looking for a simple huge, something that isn't always given at home.

Coming to school sometimes is their only consistent "thing/person" in their lives. They know every school day, they will get breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided by the staff.

My Project

I am not just asking for my personal co-taught classroom, I am asking for donations to provide the WHOLE 3rd-grade team with new whiteboards, markers, and erasers! We currently are sharing markers, erasers, and whiteboards among the 5 classrooms that we do have! So at the time, finding all the materials is also holding up our instructional time!

As for my co-taught classroom, we use whiteboards for all subjects!

It allows the students to become active listeners and engage in the lesson! It's something fun to use, something the students do not have at home! Normally, in Math we provide a math problem, have the students solve it on the whiteboards when the students are finished, they hold the boards up, we approve, and they erase their work as we discuss it! It's our own little assessment tool !! As for Language Arts, we normally allow the students to review their spelling words with the whiteboards, whether it is writing them 3 times each, or students quizzing each other! In the end, it's different from paper and pencil, it's something the kids want to work with, and we need more each item!
