My Students

My kindergarten students live on Manhattan's Upper West Side and attend a school building that is over 100 years old. They come to school full of curiosity and eager to learn.

Many of my students do not see themselves as readers and writers when they first walk through the door of our classroom, but each one of them gradually becomes the author and illustrator of many books and soon finds the number of words he or she can read growing by the day.

My Project

Our current easel is old and the parts no longer securely lock in place.

We will use the easel daily during most whole class lessons in all subjects.

It will enable me to model the kind of writing I would like the children to emulate. I will be able to provide examples of what I expect the children's work to look like in word study, reading, writing, math, social studies and science. Children will be able to come up and write on it or read information from their seats. The wheels allow for it to be mobile, so the children can see it from their seats on the rug or it can be moved to allow for better viewing from the tables.
