Most of my students have never traveled outside California. They would love to interact with students in other parts of the world. They are excited to discover similarities between them and children in other countries. They like to learn what makes other children happy and what life is like in their countries. This multicultural experience allows them to interact with peers from other walks of life.
This project is for all students including those with and those without special needs.
This Pen Pal program connects US students with students in Uganda, Lebanon, and India. Students participating come from 2nd through 5th grade classrooms, many from the Dual Language Programs.
My Project
Having Pen Pals around the world expands my students' vision of how other children live. My students learn what makes other children happy and how they spend their time. Most of my students have not had the opportunity to travel outside southern California. By communicating directly with students in Uganda, Lebanon, and India, the exchange will increase appreciation, compassion, and global awareness. We need postcards and markers for this program.
This Pen Pal project improves self-esteem as someone is responding to students' voices through the magic of letter writing and creating art.
The project improves handwriting, reading, social skills, compassion, and patience. It will develop appreciation for delayed gratification as they have to wait for real mail to travel to and from countries. Writing the world also develops curiosity and explores commonalities. Thank you!
