Wrapping Up Dr. Seuss Birthday Week

Help me give my students an assortment of Dr.Seuss books to help them learn to read.

My Project

Our school is located in the inner city with underprivileged families striving for a better life. Single parents, grandparents, and older siblings continue to do their very best to instill a better way of living for their families. They face many challenges, but that doesn't impede them from wanting to learn or stop them from dreaming big.

We are 95% African American, 2% Haitian American, 2% Hispanic and 1% Caucasian, with 97% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

Four of them have IEP's, four more pending IEP's and five are ESOL children. So our days are challenging.

These books would benefit all my students and their siblings for years to come in their quest in learning to read.

Reading can take you places you have never been before. – Dr. Seuss

Exposure to books contributes to an understanding of print concepts (left to right, top to bottom, front to back, punctuation, title/author, illustrator, and letter concepts). It also will help develop early reading skills. Most of my student's homes are encompassed in Public Housing and do not have extra money to purchase books to have in their home.
