Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will be returning to school in September as a 1st grade teacher in a low-income neighborhood in the heart of Philadelphia. My classroom this year will have 25 enthusiastic learners, each is on a different learning level and I need to think of creative ways to engage them, keep them focused, and build the foundation to make them life long learners.

Despite the adversity of the harsh area that surrounds our school and many of their homes, I am in constant awe of the resilience that they show.

They come to school wanting to learn and shouldn't let something small like not having a pencil keep them from having their best day.

Our classroom is a safe place where all of my students are encouraged to be themselves and have fun while learning. Because of this, they look forward to coming to school every day.

Thank you for your generosity.

My Project

I am heading back to my 1st grade classroom in September during a time of extreme uncertainty! My students have all experienced various forms of trauma in their lives. They ended their school year early because of COVID and then many of them watched their neighborhood being destroyed.

I have always tried to create a safe space and welcoming for all of my students.

Your help makes that possible for me to do so! The giftcard for Teachers Pay Teachers will allow me the opportunity to purchase resources that my students will be able to utilized either in the school building or digitally if we are not allowed back in our classroom in the fall. The scissors will help develop their fine motor skills, the books will introduce them to characters that look like them! And the crayons will allow my students to draw pictures of their families and friends that actually look like them!
