My Students

Being quarantined at home is anything but fun, however, my students are still eager to learn every day. The first thing they ask their mom in the mornings is, “Is the computer ready yet?” They may not have the best learning environment at home, but a corner at the living room or dining area will satisfy the little learning minds.

After a few weeks’ of trials and errors, I found learning to be more effective when my students can see the teacher models the lessons.

With distance learning, I try to use available online apps, such as ClassDojo and Seesaw.me to post my instructional videos. However, there are times when I wish I could just demonstrate my own instruction by video-recording my own lessons with the necessary tools and supplies so my students can improve their comprehension through better interaction with me.

My Project

During regular instruction at school, I break down a problem solving steps and model how to look for clues to start the first step and each step thereafter. My students feel comfortable asking questions if they don’t understand a math concept or a literary text without worrying about being laughed at. It is easy for them to see and understand my step-by-step instruction and examples at school when I have access to the materials and tools I need.

With distance learning, a document camera and a magnetic whiteboard will help my students better comprehend the problem-solving process and seeing modeled lesson activities.

These tools will support me in embracing the diverse needs of my students as I plan and deliver a clear, direct instruction via Zoom.

The document camera and magnetic whiteboard will be returned to school once school is reopened. I will continue to use them with my students for instruction. I’m confident that these tools will contribute to the academic success of my students even beyond the distance learning.
