Help Mrs. Bate

I am a K-8 Art teacher for about 650 students in a low-income community. Due to a very limited budget, I am only able to order the bare essentials for teaching art, such as paper, markers, and crayons.

It has been years since my students have worked with any kind of three-dimensional material. I also want to teach them something new and different than before.

Since the students have expressed interest in creating sculptures, I am asking for craft wood materials. The younger students will be able build their fine motor skills and the older students will improve their creativity and problem solving skills when it comes to creating artwork. All students will create a variety of projects with these wood materials. As a result they will also learn about relief sculpture, architecture, and form building, to name a few.

I have tried to find some wood pieces on my own by going to local hardware stores and lumber yards. Even if they had scraps to give away, I found that they were dirty, filled with splinters and unsafe for children to work with. Your gift of craft wood the students at my school would give them a new and wonderful art experience.
