Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 11th and 12th grade students at high school who serves mostly low-income students. Our school prides itself in offering "distinctive curricular programs to enlighten the leaders of tomorrow in an open and inclusive environment." That is the reason that our school hosts 39 clubs ranging from academic (honor's clubs) to anime and social clubs designed to enhance students' opportunities to interact and participate in supervised extra-curricular activities. A good percentage of the students have to help at home financially, so they carry an extra load of stress and need that feeling of belonging and camaraderie they can get as members of a club. Because of that, this year, students are not as active as in past years, so incentives may encourage them to join my club.

My Project

This project will provide incentives for students to interact with other students who share their same interests. They will engage in communal fun activities that will help them unwind and forget about the problems and difficulties they face. In addition, during the tutoring sessions, students will learn and improve their communication skills while teaching struggling students who need assistance in reading and those whose first language is not English. Students will feel identified with the club and their peers using their club shirts during school-wide activities and club socials.

By participating in club activities, at-risk students are encouraged to stay in school, while improving their communication skills in a relaxing and socially healthy environment.

Club officers improve their leadership skills as they interact with other club leaders and help the school community become more integrated.
