My Students

For the first time in over ten years, the Occupational therapist and I (Physical Therapist) have a classroom to provide therapy in our barrier free school. We hope to create a warm, inviting space where our children can receive the best care.

Our students are amazing!

There are children who get around the school in motorized wheelchairs, walkers, braces etc. and nothing stops them. They are strong, determined, warriors. Their peers see beyond their needs and help each other willingly. We are creating an environment where we see the individual for who they are and not what they are challenged by.

My Project

Transferring our growing kids from their wheelchairs to the floor has become physically challenging, having a mat table will allow for easier transfer to a cushioned, safe area to stretch and strengthen our kids. Many of our kids participate in a modified yoga program, the mat would work wonderfully. The other equipment would be used to aide in gross and fine motor development. The DVD player would allow us the opportunity to incorporate programs such as activity works to our daily warm ups, making therapy interactive and fun.

Donations to this project will help provide challenging and exciting activities to further our students physical potential and nurture their spirit.

Our population varies greatly and their needs require safe and efficient care. Having a well equipped therapy room in a barrier free school would allow us to provide quality care. "There is no greater disability in society than the inability to see a person as more". I am fortunate enough to see this everyday. My kids may not be able to walk but if given the opportunity they dance, participate in sports, and play with their peers.
