My Students
I am the 3rd grade Math and Science teacher of approximately 30 elementary-aged children at a small school in Houston, Texas. Of the 350 PreK 3 - 5th-grade students at our Title I campus, 100% are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch. 89% of my students have been labeled as economically disadvantaged.
Although my students are in unfortunate circumstances, they are worth so much more than the labels that have been attached to them.
My students come through my door every day ready to grow and willing to learn. They are hopeful for their futures but need the tools to make their dreams come true.
My Project
During our math block, our students engage in workstations that allow for practice, repetition, and reinforcement of what they've learned. Throughout the years, my students' favorite workstation has always been the "Games" station. Having a variety of games for my scholars to choose from will allow for more autonomy and flexibility to practice the most important math concepts of third grade such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, place value, money, time, and more!
The more control they have over their selections, the more engagement and active participation our classroom will have.
The products that I have selected will positively affect my students and help them master the basic skills needed to be successful in third grade.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
