My Students

I love my fifth graders! Our Title I school in New York City is comprised of a diverse group of students, a large majority of whom receive free lunch.

Our students are very energetic and have very different learning styles, abilities, and needs.

Many of our students have learning disabilities, and some have fallen behind since the COVID-19 pandemic.

We need to encourage both group work, especially during these times, and independent work so our students can succeed academically and socially. In order to achieve today, we want to help our students overcome the new challenges that the past year and a half have imposed upon them. To do this, we have to appeal to our students' interests by staying up-to-date with technology and literature.

My Project

By having Storyworks magazine for each of my students, they will be able to enjoy exciting authentic texts that are engaging and fun. In order to foster a love for reading children should have the opportunity to read authentic, meaningful texts that they can relate to. Reading comprehension allows the reader to interact with the text and have a meaningful experience with literature. Research has shown that comprehension is enhanced when students read stories they are interested in and can relate to the characters. Storyworks provides readers with the opportunities to read articles and stories that are enjoyable as well as educational. We hope to inspire kids to love reading and learning with resources that reflect their lives, interests and identities.

Every Storyworks text is carefully crafted for students' interests and abilities and is packaged with rich multimodal support tools for joyful teaching and learning.

Storyworks creates thoughtfully leveled texts, audio read-aloud support and much more to help differentiate our instruction for all of our learners. Storyworks will enable us to provide impactful lessons with engaging, multigenre texts!
