My Students

My students come from all over Philadelphia to attend classes at our high school. I work with students across grades 9-12 through my 10th grade English classes and AP English Language & Composition class. The majority of our students come from poverty-stricken neighborhoods. Our school district and school have minimal funding resources and we barely have enough money in our budget to pay for necessities like books and paper.

My students are dedicated and hard-working young scholars intent on high achievement.

As a history-themed school in Pennsylvania, our core tenets are knowledge of history, democratic deliberation, and active citizenship. We work to achieve these tenets in our classroom through active engagement with texts and a focus on critical analysis of the world around us. We are working to become better writers and readers in order to become lifelong learners and active citizens in our world.

My Project

Working virtually is challenging for all of us but there are amazing technologies out there that make it a little easier. Two technologies that my students and I have used and found very engaging are Padlet and Gimkit. These platforms allow students to not only work virtually but to do so in a collaborative fashion. It's almost like being back in the classroom!

I hope you will help me make our learning more fun and engaging through the use of these wonderful digital technologies.

Padlet allows students to create some amazing collaborative posters which are useful for creating discussions and also for completing group analysis of texts that other students can give feedback on. Gimkit makes learning fun and competitive through a game format and will be adding an additional writing platform in January that will make essay and story writing much more fun and collaborative. While we can't be physically together, we can at least work together!
