My Students

In class, students engage in inquiry-based learning and collaborative learning groups to help them engage in either financial literacy or pre-calculus more effectively.

In addition to the mathematical skills learned, students endeavor to develop a growth mindset in mathematics, positive racial identity, and a sense of building community.

The following mantra is proudly posted above our whiteboard.

My Project

Research has shown that inquiry-based learning and the use of collaborative learning groups lead to more motivated students, supports the development of critical thinking and information literacy, and results in better long term retention and a deeper understanding of information. I have seen this to be true first hand.

However, with a class size of 33 and the 16 two-seat tables provided, trying to organize high school students into collaborative groups becomes nearly impossible - especially if I aim to circulate around the room to facilitate instruction.

These desks would allow all students to be ready for group, partnered, or individual work without compromising the available space in the room. Likewise, with these desks students are oriented toward the front of the class or each other with ease, and frees up space for me to get to my students more quickly.
