This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love learning. They come in every morning with a smile on their face, full of enthusiasm about what the day in front of them holds. The most significant thing about them is how much they love their school. We are part of a school community where the school is brand new. The school we are a part of started a little over three years ago and my students were the inaugural class here. They are the first group of students to start the school and they are going to be the first class to graduate. They feel a certain pride being the original class here, they wear their school polo shirts with honor, and they love being a part of our community.

As wonderful as our school is because it is brand new, it is extremely limited in its resources.

Each year as the school grows, the students grow older, and a new grade forms. Unfortunately, each year that a new grade begins, we have to start over from scratch. My class of third graders is the first third grade class the school has had, so we really lacking in the resources that we need.

My Project

Since we are a new grade in a growing school supplies and resources are very few and far between. Two areas that we basically have nothing in is science and in art. My students absolutely love both of these subjects and we have successfully integrated these areas together. For all of the science experiments that we do we show off our process and results in some kind of artistic form. The art we do varies from experiment to experiment-sometimes it is through painting, sometimes it is through drawing and coloring, sometimes its through collage art, sometimes it is through clay. We track our scientific process, perform the experiments, get our results, and then culminate our whole process with some kind of art project to show all that we have done. The problem we have is we have zero supplies. All of the science materials we use in the experiments and all of the art materials we use to show our work I have to buy myself. We literally have no science and no art materials to work with. I want to make sure my students are getting the integrated science and art that they need and that they love. In order to do that I have to scrounge around and find things and buy things myself. There is nothing that I would love more than to be able to give my students materials that they need to explore their science curriculum and the art supplies that they need to express their work. The materials I am requesting in this project will definitely push us in the right direction!
