Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I know my students can succeed, they have the potential and show great progress throughout the school year. I want all my students to improve their math level, but this can only happen if they get the tools and continuity to be successful. This include daily group practice, reflection, and homework.

My six graders are a wonderful group of students.

They come from various background and are a diverse group that work together in small groups to learn and be successful. Many of them live in shelters and have little or no structure in their lives. Many come very late and are frequently absent. Many times they have no writing material because they lost it along with the homework. In our school we strive to create a "togetherness" so that all students feel valued despite their circumstances. We want them to feel confident and improve their self esteem as individuals. We want to encourage their spirit of perseverance and encourage them never to give up. I like to tell them, "You can do it if you try". I want to do my best to help my students who do not like math. I want to break the barriers they have erected over the years and the self doubt about not being a good math students. I want to make them great math students.

My Project

My students need these supplies which include composition notebooks, ink cartridges, and pencils so that they are equipped every day to take and maintain work given. They would be able to practice on the dry erase board provided before recording the information in their notebooks. The use of their notebooks to reflect in daily will allow the me to assess their level of understanding. It is difficult to ask students to share worksheets. The ink will allow the students to have individual worksheets to work at their own pace. These students will be able to have printed copies of the homework rather than copying it off the board which is time consuming and results in lost time when they have to transition to another class. The chart tablets will give them a chance to demonstrate their understanding of what they learned as a group. These donations will contribute to the improvement and increase productivity of my eighty students and their math classroom as well as their math levels.

The students I teach have the ability to do better in math if they get the resources to help them constantly collaborate, review and revise past work and reflect on current work.

Having notebooks and not just file paper that ends up in the garbage at the end of the day will provide continuity for my students on a daily basis. Many days they turn up with excuses about not getting a chance to copy the homework. These supplies will eliminate excuses and increase and improve individual work.
