This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What are VIP skills? VIP stands for Vestibular, Interoception, and Proprioception. These skills are important to help calm and focus our bodies and our minds. How can we incorporate our senses through movement in order to focus our minds? I work for a 3K-8th grade community school in a low-income neighborhood in NY providing Occupational Therapy services.

Occupational Therapy focuses on helping my students increase their independence to be able to function in the school environment.

Many of my students demonstrate difficulty with sensory processing which can lead to them having trouble regulating their emotions and focusing. With the proper equipment/tools along with teaching strategies, my students will be able to learn how to utilize their senses to better focus throughout the day.

The requested equipment will work on vestibular and proprioceptive skills which will increase my students' interoception and body awareness. Having a printer to print out visuals will help students who have difficulty with communicating their thoughts and emotions.
