Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a diverse community in Queens, NY. They come from a huge variety of economic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. We have many ENL students who are new English-language speakers and learners. Over 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Our school works hand-in-hand with the community to ensure the highest quality education for all students who attend here.

We have a focus on service learning and global conservation, where the students and staff take part in fundraising and creating awareness about issues within the community and around the world. We make global partnerships and teach important citizenship values to our students through these worldwide connections.

My Project

This project will bring the engagement and fun of Flocabulary to our students. Flocabulary is an awesome website and app that provides music and visuals for a variety of subjects and concepts, allowing students to learn in a fun, audio/video-based way.

Flocabulary aligns so nicely with our cross-curricular topics - allowing us to engage our students in an innovative way.

Since we have students who are learning at home, as well as in-school, this resource is a great bridge to connect both groups of students to a common learning platform. We hope to utilize the additional activities that come with a Flocabulary subscription as well, which includes quizzes and supplemental resources for our diverse learners.
